eccenca 1.1 is based now on SMILA r544

The necessary changes on SMILA r544 for eccenca 1.1 can be found at http://download.eccenca.com/patches-modifications/

SMILA r544 has the following new "features" besides a lot of bug fixes
- agent API and agent examples
- record package/bundle processing
- osgi jmx command line support

eccenca 1.1 was modified to work with the new eDiscoverer (http://ediscoverer.eccenca.com/)

For using eccenca 1.1 with the eDiscovorer you need some special Interface Bundles. Please contact us or use the specialized download version of eccenca at http://ediscoverer.eccenca.com.

native (Lucene) Query Interface: Beside the existing Query mechanism eccenca CE 1.1 contains a new API for sending native queries to the underlying index technologie (in this case lucene)
eccenca 1.1 was build with JDK 1.6 and is based on eclipse 3.4.2

eccenca CE 1.0 will work until 31-12-2009. We will contact you in time to send you a new licence file.

This version of eccenca CE was tested for up to 400.000 data entries. If you need a version for larger data amounts, we will soon release an updated version of eccenca, which will be optimized to meet mass data requirements.

eccenca CE Version 1.0 released!

Hi,

sorry if I have not been blogging much in the past few weeks.
Last weeks release of eccenca 1.0 though is more than enough reason to share a few thoughts with you.
Currently we are having a lot of discussion about licensing models and adoption. I am quite sure that many of you have very qualified opinions on this matter as well. So do not hesitate to share your thoughts with us! ]]> First and foremost you all know that eccenca 1.0 and all future releases will be fully based on our Open Source project SMILA. This is a crucial commitment for us and all of our partners and thus SMILA is deeply ingrained in the }}} eccenca DNA.
SMILA being published under the EPL will give everyone as much freedom and choice as anyone could ever ask for.

At the same time there might be people that want more than freedom of choice. These people are commercial users of software that are not religious about the way software is being created. Basically they might not even care about open source at all, if it did not guarantee unparalleled savings and unique levels of vendor independence.
Their focus is to get a software that works, to get it at an affordable TCO and to have one single throat to choke if it doesn't.

The commercial distribution of SMILA is called }}} eccenca and it is designed to meet the needs of exactly this group of users.
Our offering to this user group is to provide service level agreements, indemnification, support and maintenance.
The most effective way for us to provide such warranties is to make sure that the shipped software is based on best in class components.
While we are convinced that Open Source is the ideal model to implement platforms like SMILA, we are aware that commercial grade components might improve scalability and stability.
As a consequence }}} eccenca will not be published under the EPL but rather under licensing models that will allow us to pick the best components independent of political correctness;-)

The eccenca Community Edition is our way to allow you to test drive SMILA including some of these upgraded components.
As many of these components are provided by commercial software vendors, we need to put a time limit on the eccenca CE freeware license.
We will make sure though that there will be a eccenca CE license downloadable at any time that will provide a six months free trial period.
After this period you can do three things:
1)   This is our favorite: Decide that eccenca works for you and thus upgrade to }}} eccenca EE
2)   Decide that you do not want to spend money on support services and thus choose to stick with SMILA
3)   Decide that downloading new eccenca CE license key to continue testing is worth the effort.

Please let us know if you have ideas and/or good reasons why we should alter this approach.

In the mean time I hope that you will have fun exploring eccenca and help us improve eccenca by providing information on bugs and suggestions.
